We cater to children, teenagers, young adults as well as adult riders – and because we believe that everyone is different, we use different techniques to teach. We try to work only with children age 8 and older, because our experience has taught us that their attention span and overall grasp of the sport is better. Private lessons are required for all riders just starting out – regardless of age – so that our Instructors can best evaluate you or your child’s needs.

Lessons for Young Children
Rides of 10-15 minutes can be arranged to evaluate your child’s interest and readiness to take lessons. Children this age will always be helped with tacking and untacking horses and will remain on a lunge-line until they are comfortable and the Instructor feels they are ready to ride. They will learn balancing exercises and learn to steer their horse. While in the beginner stage, expect your child to spend approximately half of their time in preparation to ride (grooming, tacking up, etc.). As they move up the ranks, they will be able to arrive earlier, tack up their own horses, and will have earned the time to ride longer. When the Instructor feels the child is ready, he/she can move into larger, longer group lessons of no more than 3. There is no set time and no schedule. Each rider is evaluated on his or her own ability.

Lessons for Young Adult Riders
Expect your child to spend approximately half of their time in preparation to ride (grooming, tacking up, etc.) As they move up the ranks, they will be expected to tack and untack themselves. Once these skills are mastered, be prepared to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled lesson time to get the horse ready. Riders at this age will also work on balance and steadiness in the saddle. For young adult riders with prior experience, it is possible to get started in a group lesson after the first private lesson.

Lessons for Adult Riders
Whether or not you have ridden a horse before isn’t important to us. What is important is that you have a love of horses, and a desire to learn a sport that will teach you so many things about life in general. Beginning adult riders will learn all the basics of horse care, as well as all the basics of ground safety, then progress to being on the horse. After a few months, most adult riders are comfortable with the basic skills and move up to group lessons. Adult riders with experience can start immediately after the first private lesson.
All riders must have a release agreement on file at the farm.
